The summer is external audit season for Caltronics which means we just recently completed this year’s external audit. With a focus on key processes and efficiencies our auditor’s program encouraged us to hold ourselves accountable to our own processes as well as ISO’s and to act on opportunities for improvement.
Our history
Having been successfully in business for 20 years it came as quite the surprise for Caltronics that we could learn so much from the process of initial certification. Work instructions were limited to local or individual copies if they were documented at all, and key processes were not organized and planned in a way that facilitates the proper implementation of the process approach. Growing pains aside, Caltronics leadership was able to see the merit behind organizing the business in a way that was compliant to ISO 9001 requirements. A quality manual was established along with a quality management system, key processes identified, work instructions documented and controlled, and quality objectives were set as a direction for the business in the future.
A look into the future
As we continue to do business under the watchful eye of ISO 9001 we turn our focus from the initial tasks of laying the groundwork for compliance, to areas of continued improvement and maintenance; taking a good thing and striving to make it even better. Our recent audit saw us repeat history in the form of complacency within our quality manual and quality management system, and gave us a clear path forward. We are reevaluating the key processes to better streamline the efforts put in by the talented individuals on our team and increase efficiencies. These efforts will cut down on errors in the assembly process and help us to bring forward new offerings in the coming months and years. From making conscious choices in purchasing to work with suppliers who most share our quality objectives, to empowering the design team to put their best foot forward during the quoting process and deliver an amazing service all the way through our shipping it out to the customer, we are ready to continue our pursuit of continuous improvement and the highest quality.
